Our Charity

In May 2023 a new association formed between the Morgan Sports Car Club and StarterMotor, a charitable organisation based at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire, focused on inspiring the next generation to find careers in the classic and historic vehicle sector.

In simple terms, there are three things the Charity is aiming to do i) build awareness of the sector and its welcoming community, ii) engage a younger demographic to get them involved in owning and enjoying what’s on offer by being part of the Community and iii) to assist this younger cohort to find jobs and build careers in the sector.

Working closely with the Heritage Skills Academy (HSA), based at Bicester Motion and Brooklands Museum, StarterMotor aims to channel pre-qualified candidates into their application process. HSA delivers apprenticeships in heritage engineering, covering mechanical, coachbuilding and trim disciplines. Several of StarterMotor’s Ambassadors are HSA graduates, now employed by firms such as Ecurie Bertelli, the globally renowned pre-war Aston Martin specialists.

StarterMotor continues to build a strong network of schools, Further Education colleges, universities and other learning organisations like the British Motor Museum, Gaydon with whom it works to identify those students with a penchant for the Internal Combustion Engine. For these young people, the Charity provides a range of support from work experience, connection to volunteering opportunities, and one-to-one mentoring.

To facilitate opportunities to drive cars in both competitive and social contexts, the Charity has a small fleet of classic and historic cars including a 1934 Austin Seven Sports 75 Speedy, a 1933 Singer Nine Tourer and 2013 Morgan Plus 4, generously on loan to the Charity by Les Enstone.

MSCC launched its relationship with StarterMotor at Mogfest 2023. A cheque for £1,000 was presented to the Charity by the Club, along with the offer of a car loan by MSCC’s Ambrose Langley-Poole. The car, a previous Antique Automobile Club of America concours winner, is a lovely 1953 flat rad and was gratefully received by StarterMotor for use by its young Ambassadors – it was displayed at numerous classic motoring events, flying the flag for both MSCC and StarterMotor.

So far MSCC members have raised approaching £20,000 in donations and fundraising contributions since the relationship was announced.

Various fundraising events will take place with StarterMotor over the coming year.
