MSCC 75th Anniversary

75 Years of MSCC – The Roadster

As we continue our countdown to the Morgan Sports Car Club's 75th Anniversary, we're celebrating one of the most powerful and charismatic models ever to wear the Morgan badge: the Roadster.

Introduced in 2004, the Roadster represented a new chapter in Morgan's long history of building lightweight sports cars. Combining traditional Morgan styling with a powerful V6 engine, it delivered exhilarating performance while retaining the handcrafted character and driving involvement that enthusiasts have always cherished.

The Roadster was powered by a Ford-sourced V6 engine, initially displacing 3.0 litres before later evolving into a 3.7-litre version producing over 280 bhp. In a car weighing little more than a tonne, this provided truly impressive performance and established the Roadster as one of the fastest production Morgans of its era.

Despite its performance credentials, the Roadster remained unmistakably Morgan. Hand-built in Malvern using traditional craftsmanship techniques, it combined a lightweight aluminium body with the marque's famous ash frame construction. The result was a car that offered modern performance while preserving the distinctive feel and character that defines Morgan ownership.

For many owners, the Roadster represented the perfect blend of old and new. It retained the classic Morgan silhouette and open-air driving experience while offering effortless long-distance touring capability and impressive acceleration. Whether crossing continents, attending Club events or simply enjoying a favourite driving road, the Roadster proved itself to be an exceptionally versatile sports car.

Over its production life, the Roadster developed a loyal following and became one of the most successful modern Morgans. It appealed to existing Morgan enthusiasts and attracted many new owners looking for a unique alternative to more conventional sports cars.

Production of the Roadster concluded in 2019, marking the end of an important chapter in Morgan's history. Its influence can still be seen today, having helped bridge the gap between the traditional Morgan range and the next generation of models built on Morgan's modern aluminium platforms.

As the Morgan Sports Car Club celebrates 75 years of friendship, adventure and enthusiasm for the marque, the Roadster stands as a reminder of Morgan's ability to evolve while remaining true to its roots. Fast, distinctive and immensely enjoyable to drive, it remains a favourite among many Club members.
