This is the Morgan Supersport, launched 11th March – the replacement for the Plus Six. It’s unmistakably a Morgan, but with a contemporary twist and an evolution of the Midsummer’s long tail, now including a boot. It has been designed with a new carbon-fibre hard top for year-round practicality.
The new “CXV” platform refines the existing CX design with 10% more torsional rigidity, with improved, faster steering and updated suspension including a rear anti-roll bar as standard (plus there’s the optional Dynamic Handling Pack with Nitron adjustable dampers) offering a compliant ride with precise handling. A limited slip diff is now optional. The engine is the same 335bhp BMW B58 3-litre straight six as used in the Plus Six, again with the excellent ZF 8-speed auto gearbox. There are two new wheel designs: 18” flow formed aluminium, and 19” forged aluminium, both significantly lighter than previous designs.
The aerodynamics of the new shape have been honed using CFD to generate 20% less lift, 5% less drag and an improved handling balance over the previous model. Top speed is 166mph.
The Sennheiser audio system takes a further step in development and now includes Bluetooth phone calls which are shown on the digital dashboard screen, and the tray behind the gear selector is a wireless phone charger. The doors are taller than the classic shape Morgans and have a new sidescreen fitting mechanism, which uses the interior doorhandle to release them rather than the traditional round knobs. The door trims take inspiration from 1960s hi-fi systems, which seems appropriate The new tail offers a boot and also a larger parcel shelf area for more storage.
Dealers are due to have demonstrators in mid-April and we are hoping to have the demonstrator at our Bicester Heritage event on 2nd May.
