Glenda’s May blog 2026.
Many thanks to Phil Harry for his service as scribe… Hopefully I will be able to continue meet the high standards he has set.
West Area
Three couples ventured to Scotland where a great time was had by all despite one day of horizontal heavy rain!
A group of group of Taffmoggers headed to Pendine Sands on the 27th April to see runs by ‘Babs’, the land-speed record car that had been dug up from the sand and restored. The traffic was heavy due to the fabulous weather, but everyone made it. Many thanks to John Skipper who paid for Phil’s entry and kept space for the group to park together on the beach. They were also joined by Ray and Diane in their Merc. Unfortunately one car had overheating/starting problems, but it was able to be fixed on the beach. Their journey home to Gower was, thankfully, uneventful. The sound of Babs was awesome even at low speed and must have been jaw dropping when doing 170mph. It was nice to see some new faces at the meet and hope they are able to attend future Noggins and events.
On the same day a couple of West Area regulars headed to Ireland on a trip organised by Mike and Phyllis in their roles as Pembrokeshire Classic Car Club organisers. They watched the Pendine Sands Taffmoggers pass as they waited at a rendez-vous spot en route to Pembroke Ferry port.
Spotmog had a group staying on Gower and Lynne and Phil met up with them at the King Arthur Hotel in Reynoldston, their first stop before heading on to Tenby. Some suggestions for runs were discussed. Donmog were also in the area staying at St Florence near Tenby a few days later. Phil forwarded them some routes for scenic runs by email. Luckily both groups had excellent weather and were able to see the fabulous countryside in all its glory!
The April Noggin was unfortunately cancelled due to insufficient replies.
Bridgend Area
The Bridgend Noggin on Wednesday 8th April benefited from a definite change for the better as the weather was warm, dry, and very sunny. Five Morgans met at The Royal Mint for coffee before heading out for a drive through mostly quiet country roads to Porthcawl where many other people, motorists, and motorcyclists were also enjoying the unseasonably good weather. Lunch at the Grove Golf Club followed where the group were joined by two other couples.
The May Noggin is on Thursday 14th, the usual meeting day. Details for this will be sent out shortly.
Usk Area
The Usk Noggin held on the 15th April was relatively well attended with 7 couples, even though a few of the regulars were away on holiday. The food, as always, was fantastic! It was lovely to meet Tim and Jean from Llandegfedd there, who were new faces to the group. We hope to see you again at the Chainbridge Inn on the 20th May for our next Noggin. Details for this will be sent out shortly. Hopefully with the lighter nights and the weather improving we will soon be able to add a run out before meeting at the Chainbridge for drinks and a meal.
May brings us yet closer to a planned trip to Greynog Hall on the 23rd June where a group of Taffmoggers will be staying at the Grade I-listed country mansion in Powys for 2 nights. Fingers crossed that the weather holds for this fantastic trip!
