TaffMog - South Wales

Taffmob Blog. by Philip Harry

An apology to Lyn Weber as it was missed from our previous report.

International Morgan Day. Lyn sent this for his trip out as ambassador/ interloper for Taffmog It has been a beautiful day capturing Morgan ethos that “It’s more than a car, it’s a community”

The weather has been kind, it started (roof down of course) with a drive to Williams Automobiles accepting their invitation to coffee lunch and unlimited test drives including the new ‘SuperSport’.

There was a good crowd from LogMog and I was the interloper from TaffMog ????

The spread was outstanding and hospitality second to none. I had a couple of drives and all I will say is that the SuperSport maybe marmite, however, what a piece of kit - outstanding (sadly out of my price range).

Then it was a leisurely drive to Chaxhill to ‘Severn & Wye Smokery’ for a late afternoon lunch, I know, a little indulgent ????.

This was followed by a leisurely drive home via Forrest of Dean to Monmouth and home.

It’s been a lovely day and Williams staff, LogMog members made it so enjoyable and welcoming.

October was fairly quiet as expected. One sad bit of news though as we lost Carl Hadley after an illness, Carl was a long standing Taffmog member who was a stalwart of the centre. His funeral is on November 6th Condolences to Jean and the family.

Neil and Helen seem to be trying to clock up a record for miles in the Morgan, messages were being received from many far flung places. I went to MMC to drop the car off for a warranty job, a couple of extra checks, steering geometry and they did a couple of routine upgrades. I enjoyed the train rides to and fro for a change to watching the road! MMC Service dept were great. A chance to view a few cars and a sausage sandwich in the cafe. There were some nice cars in the showroom.

Hopefully there will be fine days over the winter so that days out can be enjoyed for tgose keeping their cars on the road.

Remember, it only takes a phone call to arrange a trip!

At the noggins.

West Wales. The Fountain Inn was again the venue and we had 8 people there. One Morgan, only though. The food again was great, eating downstairs where there is a good menu. The Thai room upstairs might be an alternative as well. While there we booked for a Christmas noggin, December 21st. As you can imagine it is a busy time of the year so dates were limited. We need number asap so we can confirm with them.

Bridgend.

Numbers attending the October Noggin were back to more normal after the summer holidays ended and the coffee stop at Dyffryn Gardens was enjoyed by all who attended even if they were unable to continue on the scenic drive to lunch. There was much catching up involved on who had been where and how the Morgan had behaved as well as health updates on missing members to whom we send our good thoughts and prayers.

The November Noggin will be a lunch only meeting at Grove Golf on Thursday 13th.

Our Christmas lunch will again be at Grove Golf on December 11th and menu choices will follow shortly when I will need to receive payment in full as The Grove have again requested one bill rather than our usual method of individual payment

Usk Report for October

With BST ending soon and daylight vanishing by 7pm, the Usk October Noggin presented an ideal excuse for a pre-noggin run, arranged by Dave & Kay. Four Morgans met up at the old Hardwick pub just outside Abergavenny for what appeared to be a run for any driver called “John”. John & Val, John & Annette and John & Glenda were all greeted there by interlopers Dave & Kay. I’m sure that if John & Jackie weren’t away in France, they would have joined us too (is that just a “foreJohn” conclusion? ). A warm welcome to new members John & Glenda who live in Abergavenny and have recently bought a very nice 4/4. Not their first TaffMog noggin as they accompanied Dave & Kay to the West Wales noggin the previous month while both couples were caravanning at Pembrey, but their first noggin in a Morgan. They had full marks for being the only crew to show up without side screens, though thankfully we were all “topless” and the weather was dry if not sunny. The hour or so run took us over back roads through the very pleasant Monmouthshire countryside. We collected Simon & Jan as previously arranged when we passed by Monmouth town. Now we were five, motoring on to Trellech, Llansoy and Usk to reach The Chainbridge in time for the noggin. Being first to arrive, the intrepid Morgan crews gathered on one large table, ordering drinks and food. Gradually the others arrived, Vince & Chris, Roger & Chris and Lyn & Anne. Not a Morgan between them but lots of excuses, so after a few good-humoured jibes and taunts, they formed a separate “tintop table” alongside. As always, good food and company made for a very pleasant evening.

The following Sunday, UVCCC were holding their “Autumn Leaves” run.

Several Usk area TaffMoggers are also in the UVCCC so it was no surprise to find TaffMog well represented despite the poor weather. David Harvey was spotted in his Plus 4 and rumour has it that Simon & Jan and past TaffMog members Steve & Loraine were also participating in their Plus 4s though skipping the lunch. Dave & Kay were also on the run but not in a Mog, giving the Daimler an outing for a change. A good day’s driving with lots of Autumn colours around SE Wales and the borders ending with a late lunch at The Old Court, Symmons Yat.

Here we sat down with yet more TaffMog members Adrian & Sue Besse and Peter Sutherland & Rhiannon, but due to the weather they had left the Morgans at home.
